Cooking on a campfire is one of the pure pleasures of the summer camping trip. We all know about roasting the hot dogs, marshmallows, and even making the more complicated s’mores for dessert. But have you ever thought of making some yummy camping treats for kids using fruit? This week we will be providing some great fruit recipes for camping. Here is one idea for cooking fruit on a campfire–Berry Cobbler. Try it when you take the family camping this summer!

Berry Cobbler on the Campfire
Make dessert with summer berries on the campfire. Berry cobbler is quick and easy, as well as nutritious.

Ingredients (wet)
2 cups summer berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or a mix of these)
2-4 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons butter

Ingredients (dry - premix at home)
2-4 tablespoons sugar or brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
pinch salt

Method for Making Berry Cobbler on the Campfire
1. Spread out a piece of aluminum foil and place the berries in the center.
2. Add honey to the berries.
3. Sprinkle the premixed dry ingredients over the berry and honey mixture.
4. Add dots of butter to the top of the cobbler mixture.
5. Wrap foil around cobbler tightly until sealed completely.
6. Place the foil wrap onto the campfire grill for 30 minutes or until done.
7. Grab the hot cobbler off the grill using tongs and let cool slightly before eating.
8. Share the delicious fruit cobbler with the whole family!
