Picture frames make great holiday, mother’s day, or birthday gifts. They are even better and more meaningful when crafted at the hands of children. The picture frame gift that is the subject of this blog post gives the motor skills of a kindergarten or early elementary child a workout. The result will be a beautiful frame to be proud of! Using a hole punch and sewing are all a part of this kids’ activity.
Ingredients for Picture Frame Gift
- Cardstock paper in different colors
- Scissors
- Single round hole punch (Cool Tip: There are also many types of children’s hole punches that are easier on little hands. They can be found in interesting shapes such as insects, animals, and hearts!)
- Ribbon
- A nice picture of the child
- Glue tabs
Method for Picture Frame Gift
- Cut the cardstock into a rectangle that is at least one square inch larger than the picture size.
- Have child punch holes all around the rectangle. To make it easier, you may want to place small dots with a pencil that are nicely spaced out around the frame before hole punching.
- Help child weave the ribbon up through the first hole, then down through the second. Continue the motion all around the frame. Leave a 4 or 5 inch piece of ribbon at the beginning so that it can be used to tie a bow when completed.
- When weaving has reached the last hole, use scissors to cut the ribbon so that it is the same length as the beginning piece. Tie the ribbon into a bow.
- Center the picture and glue it in place onto the frame.

Hi, I think that you may add impact to small rooms by using oversized art as a focal point in the room. Small spaces can easily become cluttered, so one large piece instead of several small pieces will keep walls neat and orderly. Hang a large work of art on the largest wall in the room. Personalized picture frames, in particular, will visually open cramped rooms. Jennifer.
