Here comes another snow storm and yet another winter day off from school for the kids. Are you wondering what to do with them when you are snowed in? This blog post will offer five unique snow day activities and winter games ideas for the children to do when they are stuck inside during a blizzard.
1. Snow Ball Fight
No, not with real snow! This snow ball fight is an indoor version and can be really fun for two or more people! Use large pieces of fiber fill or cotton balls glued to foam balls and set up the living room as the “battle zone”. Split up into snow ball fight teams and see who can throw their snow balls the most accurately! Score points whenever a team hits the opponent.
2. Snow Painting
Grab a bucket full of snow from outdoors and have children use washable paint or food coloring to make designs in the white stuff.
3. Body Tracing
Get a roll of white paper out of your arts & crafts supply cabinet. Unroll it, have your child lay down on it and trace her from head to toe. Then, provide her with some crayons, paints or markers and let her create a colorful poster.
4. Power Out
Perhaps your power is out from the blizzard and this game will be a reality. If not, pretend the power is out by shutting off all the lights and turning down the heat a bit. Get the flashlights and blankets and turn a room into an “emergency snow shelter”. Serve them cold snacks picnic-style, such as small cream cheese bagel pieces, peanut butter bread, apple slices, etc. Kids can play this game for hours.
5. Tropical Island Trip
Pretend that you are going on a trip to a warm, tropical island! Pack up the bags with suntan lotion and sun glasses, warm weather clothes and flip flops. Have kids dress up in their summer clothes and enjoy a popsicle! Put on the bathing suits, fill the tub with warm water and get them swimming!
